El Médano, Tenerife

The town of El Médano, which translates as “The Sand Dune”, is located on the sunny southeast coast of Tenerife island. This former fishing village is popular with water sports lovers, especially amongst the wind surfers and kite surfers. The locals and Spanish enjoy spending their holidays in this relaxing seaside town. Although handy to the nearby resorts of Playas de Las Américas and Los Cristianos, El Médano is yet affected by mass tourism.

Here too is Sothis Language School which based itself in Hotel Playa Sur Tenerife, located right on the beach. Language school facilities available are classrooms, Internet access and a café. It is also possible to book your course in combination with accommodation (single or double room).

Hotel Playa Sur Tenerife
Hotel Playa Sur Tenerife is a pleasant 3-star hotel located by the bright and natural beach of El Médano. The comfortable rooms here boasts handmade pine furniture, bathroom, telephone, safe and balcony with sea view. All rooms are non-smoking rooms, however there are special zones on site for smokers. The friendly hotel team of Hotel Playa Sur Tenerife strives to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Since taken over by a German owner Heinz-Dieter Hueneke in 1980, the hotel has been completely rebuilt. The building was once appointed the Canarian César Manrique Bureau of Architect, and there was a flourishing oasis amidst the dunes of the south.

The sun shines all year round in El Médano and the humidity is low. The typical Canarian village has a beautiful square (plaza) in the centre and offers everything from pubs and restaurants to souvenir shops. At the end of El Médano’s 1.5km long sandy bay is Montaña Roja (Red Mountain), an unique natural sight which is now a protected natural park.
